An American Prayer

Friday, August 7th, 2009

This came to us over the web. We thought you might enjoy this interesting prayer given in Kansas at the opening session of their Senate. It seems prayer still upsets some people. When Minister Joe Wright was asked to open the new session of the Kansas Senate, everyone was expecting the usual  generalities, but this is what they heard:

Father’s Love Letter

Wednesday, February 11th, 2009

Father’s Love Letter is a compilation of Bible verses from both the Old & New Testaments that are presented in the form of a love letter from God to you. A collection of verses, that seems perfect for St. Valentine’s Day.

My Child,
You may not know me, but I know everything about you.
Psalm 139:1

A Prayer for Help

Wednesday, January 21st, 2009

God is the biggest help in the World.

Heavenly Father, most Gracious and Loving God, I pray to you that you abundantly bless my family and me and all who read this. I know that you recognize, that a family is more than just a mother, father, sister, brother, husband and wife, but all who believe and trust in You.

Friends Are God’s Way of Taking Care of Us

Monday, November 24th, 2008

I was driving home from a meeting this evening about 5, stuck in traffic, and the car started to choke and splutter and die. I barely managed to coast, cursing, into a gas station, glad only that I would not be blocking traffic and would have a somewhat warm spot to wait for the tow truck. It wouldn’t even turn over.

Saint Theresa’s Prayer

Thursday, November 20th, 2008

May today there be peace within.
May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to be.
May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith.
May you use those gifts that you have received, and pass on the love that has been given to you.
May you be content knowing you are a child of God.
Let this presence settle into your bones, and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise and love.
It is there for each and every one of us.

Waking the Dead, A Daily Prayer

Wednesday, September 19th, 2007

Waking the DeadJohn Eldridge is one of my favorite contemporary authors. His books take me deeper into my faith. Like hiking up an arduous mountain path, I discover the reward at the end, a scenic view giving perspective to my life. Reading Waking the Dead, I went through a powerful, transformation of my faith. The prayer below comes directly from his book.

St. Patrick’s Breastplate

Wednesday, September 19th, 2007

Celtic CrossThis poem invokes God’s protection on a journey (either literal or the metaphorical “journey of life”) against all manner of evils, including “the spells of women and smiths and druids”. It dates from the 8th century and is traditionally attributed to St. Patrick. It is composed in the same style as pagan protection charms from Ireland, but with clearly Christian content. It was translated into English by Cecil Frances Alexander as the popular Victorian hymn “I bind unto myself to-day”.

The Sh’ma

Star of DavidHear Oh Israel, the LORD is our God, the LORD is one!

The Sh’ma (”Hear!”) is called the cornerstone of the Jewish faith and is relevant to Christians as well. It comes from three sections from the Torah (Old Testament). The Sh’ma has been described as the “first and greatest commandment.” Mark 12:28-30
